European Champions 2016 - St Laurence O'Toole

The 2016 championship season continued at Forres, Moray where spectators once again came in their tens of thousands to witness the European Championships. The event organisers Piping At Forres reported their largest footfall in the four years the European Championships has been held in Forres.

139 bands and 50 Drum Majors made the trip to Forres for in what was the first of a new three-year deal for the European Championships.

The Adult Drum Major title was won by Andrea McKeown Gibson from Battlehill on a marching and discipline preference.

Emma Barr from Field Marshal Montgomery won the Juvenile grade, taking her second title for this season after winning the UK Championships earlier in June.

Jason Nicholl from Tullylagan won the Junior grade, his first championship victory.

The Grade 1 title went to St Laurence O'Toole from Eire, under the leadership of Pipe Major Alen Tully they secured their first title since victory at the Scottish Championships in 2015. Inveraray and District under Leading Drummer Steven McWhirter (Craig Inglis pictured) took their second drumming title of the 2016 season.

Field Marshal Montgomery took the runners-up spot finishing five points behind St Laurence O'Toole. Inveraray and District, Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia, Scottish Power and Spirit of Scotland completed the Grade 1 prize list.

Grade Juvenile Band - Dollar Academy
Grade Juvenile Drumming - George Watson's College

Grade 4A Band - Lanark and District
Grade 4A Drumming - Ullapool and District

Grade 4B Band - Johnstone
Grade 4B Drumming - Elgin and District

Grade Novice A Band - Dollar Academy
Grade Novice A Drumming - George Watons's College

Grade Novice B Band - Lochgelly High School
Grade Novice B Drumming - Lochgelly High School
